VACANCY: Catholic Parish of Christchurch South – Coordinator of Sacramental & Liturgical Ministries: A vacancy exists in our parish team with a key focus of establishing teams of volunteers to assist in the Sacramental and Liturgical ministries within our parish.

This role requires a special combination of experience, skill, and personal qualities. Applicants will demonstrate a personal faith commitment, relevant pastoral experience and a desire to be on mission. NIGHT OF PRAYER AND ADORATION: The parish will have a night of prayer and adoration to prepare for Pentecost. This begins on Friday 21st May at 9pm and continues through the night. All are welcome to come and pray. EUCHARIST MINISTER  OF THE SICK / ELDERLY:  Eight new Ministers of Eucharist to the Sick/Elderly have participated in formation and have been commissioned recently: Jan Baird, Jenny Clarke, Margaret Costello, Jan Smith, Abbie Evans, Margaret McCormick, Robyne Sinclair and Emily Verhoeven.  We thank them for their generosity in committing to regularly taking Eucharist to parishioners in their homes or care facilities, who are unable to attend Sunday Mass. We are fortunate to have  twenty five parishioners who participate in this ministry every week, visiting up to 140 people across south  Christchurch. Thank-you for your constant and compassionate care of our elderly and sick parishioners.


      HOON HAY  Rosary During the month of May:  Join us in praying the Rosary after the 5.30pm Mass at Sacred Heart every Monday throughout May.

      HALSWELL : Next Branch Meeting: Tuesday, 18 May, at 7.00pm. Fr Barry will celebrate Mass in the church before the meeting. The guest speaker will be Arnah Trelease, General Manager Hohepa Canterbury.

ASSISTANCE WITH ELECTRICITY: The parish has a limited fund for assisting families with a winter power bill. Please send the office a copy of your electricity account if you would like assistance. All requests are confidential.

CRAFTY CREW: The May session is on Sat 22nd, 1:30-4:00pm in the Bishop Joyce Centre at Our Lady of Victories, 106 Main South Rd in Sockburn. It’s a friendly social gathering to meet and work alongside crafters from other Christchurch parishes. Bring your handcraft project and a gold coin donation, as well as some cash for raffles.

This month we’ll have a craft material swap. Bring along your bits and bobs, odds and sods – fabric, wool, card making bits etc. What you can’t use may be a treasure for someone else. Any queries, call Jude Lathey 021 217-2052
